Presentation Year 2013

Presentation Year 2013

In 2013 the International Building Exhibition IBA Hamburg was on the finishing straight. From 23 March to 3 November it presented its projects, which now numbered 70
, as part of an overall programme. Fired by the nationwide campaign “Discover the IBA 2013”, 420,000 visitors flocked to the exhibition during the Presentation Year.

In tandem with the international garden show hamburg (igs), the IBA Hamburg held about 3,500 tours, 80 cultural and other events, and 40 specialist seminars and conferences. Every hour, six days a week, the IBA bus, with an IBA guide on board, travelled around the project area. It stopped at the main exhibitions, the “IBA DOCK”, the “Energy Bunker”, the IBA Wilhelmsburg Central info point, the Train of ideas on the Harburger Schloßinsel, and at the “Georgswerder Energy Hill” information centre. A total of 12 exhibitions revealed different aspects of the work of the IBA, including the international exhibition created in conjunction with HafenCity, under the title “Building the City Anew”.

Ultimately, there was also a lot to see: 63 construction projects, from the “Open House” to the “BIQ” algae building, and seven other cultural, social, or environmental projects demonstrated solutions for a major city in the twenty-first century. There were plenty of events happening too: a concert in the swimming pool, opening ceremonies during snowy and icy weather, two “24 Hours of the IBA” events, and a long, hot summer, followed by the IBA’s successful final phase in the autumn.

The IBA FINALE saw the IBA Hamburg bid farewell to the Elbe Islands and express its thanks to its partners, companions, and friends.
