IBA LAB on Sharing Different Points of View

IBA LAB on Sharing Different Points of View

Wilhelmsburg became a place of discussion about the growing interest in contemporary art in the city on the 11th and the 12th of November. Following the motto “Sharing Different Points of View – Art in the City”, different approaches to art and urban society collided at the IBA LAB.

National and international contributors invited by the Academy in Another City in cooperation with HafenCity University and HfbK Hamburg presented their visions of how art and cities interact as well as projects in Hamburg and other cities at the IBA LAB. Apart from an exhibition and workshops for and in Wilhelmsburg, guided tours of sites of current urban planning and event locations clearly demonstrate the urgency and potential impact of the topic. There was also the presentation of a book titled “Art of Another City” (jovis 2011), in which art projects realized by the Academy in Another City in 2009 and 2010 are documented. There followed a panel discussion on the suitable space for art in the city of the future. With regard to the art programmes of IBA Hamburg, questions were discussed about the authorities’ obligation to foster and finance art, artistic education and art in the city on an international level as well as future influences on higher education.
