Uli Hellweg and Jan Gerbitz are Guests at the Building Energy 12

How can Hamburg obtain 100% of its heating and energy requirements from local, renewable resources in the future? IBA Managing Director Uli Hellweg and IBA Project Manager Jan Gerbitz want to pursue this issue on 8th March 2012 at the “Building Energy 12″ conference in Boston. „Building Energy" is an established, interdisciplinary conference of the Northeast of USA dealing with the topics of renewable energy and energy-efficient building methods. Organised by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA), it brings together architects, engineers, building owners, politicians, developers and project managers from the USA and the whole of Europe around one table for three days.

Here Uli Hellweg and Jan Gerbitz will explain how Hamburg utilises local, renewable energies and how IBA Hamburg is approaching the goal of a climate-friendly city with the “Future Concept Renewable Wilhelmsburg”. The final result will be the hundred percent supply of electricity from renewable sources by 2025 and the virtually complete provision of heat from renewable sources by 2050. The essential modules will be the local heating networks of the Energy Bunker, the Energy Network of Wilhelmsburg Mitte as well as the “Geothermal Wilhelmsburg“ project, which will be the focus of the presentation together with an IBA exhibition at the „Building Energy 2012“.
