Visionary dwellings that revisit water and its real-estate potential.
The challenge in this case is to develop properties on water. Many people regard this as science fiction, but the future is happening now for everyone living on the Elbe Islands. In Wilhelmsburg Mitte, at the heart of the IBA site, residential dwellings float above the waterline or exhibit various solutions to waterside living. The IBA promotes the development of housing prototypes which demonstrate the real-estate potential of waterside locations, without any detrimental impact to the environment or residents’ security concerns. The quality of materials is significant: these must be permanently in line with the special needs of a waterside location.
